Children at John Hampden School will be able to get their fingers even greener after it received a donation of £75 to its gardening club.

In August, Stones Close Allotments on Windmill Road, Thame, opened its gates with a charity tea and cake afternoon as part of National Allotment Awareness week.

Chairman of the allotments, Kate White, said: “They have got 52 pupils who attend their gardening club which is a huge amount of people are interested in growing.”

The chairman added that they also selected the school as one of its charities because of how nearby it was, with only the Phoenix Trail dividing the two sites.

“They are a very local school, they can interact with us without having to even go on a road system.

“We are trying to get those children to go on a visit to us next spring.

“It’s a big site now. We have 156 plots and we are trying to now do things that A) let people know we are there and give something back to the community.”

The £150 raised on the day was split between the school and children’s group Lighthouse Thame.
