Thame Ladies secured their status as top dogs in Try Sports Division Two after they defeated title rivals Abingdon firsts 2-1 at Tilsely Park to maintain their unbeaten streak.
Abingdon had been hot on the heels of Thame all season and both sides showed plenty of early attacking verve.
However, no breakthrough could be found and both teams went in at half-time deadlocked.
Early into the second half Abingdon took full advanatage of a yellow card to push their noses in front.
However, Thame refused to let their heads drop and picked up the pace leading to a surprising equaliser from defender Jenny Alexandra.
It was Alexandra’s first goal of the season and it was just the tonic Thame needed as they eagerly pushed ahead in search of a winner.
Several chances went begging but eventually Laura Crowland showed her teammates how it was done as she got on the end of a superb cross from Clare Harris.
Meanwhile, Thame Men’s firsts’ winning streak came to a halt as they were held 2-2 at Wallingford’s seconds.
Despite their winning run Thame have struggled against lesser sides in recent weeks and goals from Gareth Birkett and Cliff Brown sealed their point at Wallingford.
