Former golf driving range could become 200-berth marina

A new 200-berth marina serving the Grand Union Canal could be created on the site of a former golf driving range after a planning application was submitted.

With few available moorings in a secure environment in the area, Castle Marinas Ltd sees the overgrown site as the perfect opportunity to meet the demand.

The proposed Ivinghoe site would be used by a wide range of boats sizes, both narrowboats and wide beam boats.

The application said: “The development will incorporate a number of features to meet the modern day requirements for boaters whilst creating an attractive facility, maintaining protected species and increasing biodiversity to this section of the canal corridor.”

The berths will be used by people wishing to permanently moor at the marina and short term visiting boaters.

Aside from the marina bays themselves, the site would also include facilities for toilets, showers, laundry and admin.

A service dock will be provided for boats to be temporarily moored for fuel and sewage pump-out. However, there are no plans to provide a restaurant or bar at the site, as the applicants say this would deter people from using other options nearby.
