A milkman has written a satirical book to help fund his 62-day charity walk from John O’Groats to Lands End.
Alec Hawkes, 51, from London Road in Aston Clinton, said he has always wanted to write a book, but never got round to it.
He said: “I loved reading and writing when I was at school and always wanted to do it but I hadn’t really written since I was at school.
“Then I saw the mess the country was getting into ten years ago, in politics and financially and decided to write about it.”
Mr Hawkes wrote the book ‘Common Sense Would Be Good’ to help him fund his bed and breakfast stays during the charity walk next May.
He took part in his first charity walk with a friend in April, raising £2,500, and the year before, took part in charity sky dive.
He said: “I hated the sky dive, but I was glad I did it. But after the walk, I thought ‘I want to do more’ and started planning the big walk.”
Alec, who does his rounds in Eggington near Leighton Buzzard, has set a target of £40,000 to raise money for WRVS which provides volunteers to help elderly people across the UK and Sense, a deafblind charity.
He also wants to raise money for Whizz-Kidz which helps disabled children get the right wheelchair for them and the A21 campaign who raise awareness of human trafficking.
He said: “I choose those four charities because they will appeal to people all over the country, rather than being from a particular area.”
Alec has planned the walk to last 62 days and Grand Marketing on Cherry Court Way, Leighton Buzzard are providing him with half a dozen free T-shirts to advertise his fundraising page.
