A celebration of the start of Wing’s very own Community Library took place at the weekend with famous authors turning up to join the party.

On Saturday, children and adults were invited to dress up as their favourite storybook character and visit the library’s launch, joined by popular children’s author Julia Jarman, who hosted a morning children’s hour and thriller writer S J Bolton hosted a session in the afternoon.

Alongside this, local groups staged displays, as well as a story-writing competition and a celebratory cake donated by county councillor Netta Glover was cut.

However, the community library’s special guest was ten-year-old Nicholas Williams who was invited to cut the ribbon on a new era for Wing Library as he has been a loyal bookworm and member there since he was a toddler.

Nicholas is now the same age as the library extension and in that time has loaned 896 books from the library on Leighton Road.

Sally Chapman, chairman of Wing Community Library Steering Group, said: “It was a really good day and hopefully we raised more awareness of the library.

In partnership with Buckinghamshire County Council, the library will be run by volunteers, and so far 20 are being trained, led by an eight member management group.
