The team of family doctors who from next year will get the final say on how NHS money is spent in the Vale is holding a meeting to discuss its plans.

The meeting at The Winslow Centre on Wednesday, November 14 follows a government plan to scrap Primary Care Trusts from April 2013.

The changes will see PCT’s replaced by doctor-led teams such as the Aylesbury Vale Commissioning Group, which will be in charge of services for the 200,000 people who currently use one of the 21 doctors practices in the Vale, Chinnor and Thame.

Chairman Dr Graham Jackson, who has worked as a family doctor in Aylesbury for more than 20 years, said: “Aylesbury Vale Commissioning Group is keen to listen and work together with patients and local groups to look at health issues and to understand what is important to local people.

“We aim to ensure that the planning of healthcare by GPs and other health professionals reflects local views and needs.

“This means we need to work closely with local people and the groups that represent them.”

The group of doctors will be in charge of reducing waiting times for operations and improving patient experiences.

It could mean for example that if there was a strain on the NHS because of obesity, the team could divert funds from other services to try to tackle the issue in the Vale.

At the moment lots of spending decisions are taken by the government on a national level.

The meeting runs 7-9pm.
