Aylesbury MP David Lidington today met with the Prime Minister to discuss the controversial £33 billion HS2 scheme.

Afterwards, Mr Lidington said: “I was pleased to have a frank and open meeting with the Prime Minister along with other ministerial colleagues whose constituencies are affected by HS2.

“At the meeting I discussed many of the points constituents have raised with me about the scheme directly with the Prime Minister.

“I made it clear that HS2 would have a significant environmental impact on the local area and that there is an urgent need for a generous and comprehensive compensation scheme.

“I also told the Prime Minister that many of my constituents who attend the community forums have told me that they feel local people are not being listened to.

“I explained to the Prime Minister the impact the proposed viaduct would have on residents in Wendover Dean and Dunsmore, the impact HS2 would have on Wendover and Stoke Mandeville and the fact that HS2 would on current plans be routed at ground level or above alongside Aylesbury and Fairford Leys.”

On Monday Mr Lidington met with Alison Munro, the chief executive of HS2 Ltd, to raise concerns about the scheme.

Afterwards he said: “At the meeting I raised issues that have been brought to my attention by local residents, parish councils and action groups regarding the community forum process, the noise impact of HS2 and potential mitigation measures.

“These included the lack of detail being provided by HS2 Ltd on noise and construction sites and the poor availability of information on HS2 Ltd’s website.

“HS2 Ltd also confirmed that they expect to be able to provide further information regarding mitigation measures and construction sites at the community forums in November and January.

“I intend to have a representative at these meetings to hear what HS2 Ltd have to say.”

Last Week the PM was accosted by anti-HS2 campaigners while shopping in Wendover for a gift for his mother a(pictured).

The PM was described as ‘personable’ by campaigners, who said he listened to their concerns but ‘his emphatic repetitive answer was that HS2 will definitely go ahead’. {http://www.bucksherald.co.uk/news/local-news/crowds-gather-as-pm-spotted-at-wendover-hs2-stand-1-4401860|Click here to read the full story|click here for more}
