A trail at the Aston Hill Mountain Bike Park has undergone a dramatic rebuild over the past eight months and will be officially re-opened this weekend.
The popular site, next to Wendover Woods, is continually being improved by a passionate team of mountain bike enthusiasts working alongside conservation bodies.
Daniel Burns, the recreation ranger for the Chilterns at the Forestry Commission, said: “Over the past three years the Aston Hill Bike Park volunteers have been working with the Forestry Commission and the cycle touring club to transform the disused Aston Hill Mountain Bike Park.
“It is now a thriving facility for a wide range of cyclist ability levels and age groups.
“Aston Hill Mountain Bike Park now has nearly 300 members and receives over 8,000 visitors a year.
“The Bike Park consists of four downhill trails, a five-and-a-half mile cross country circuit and a four-cross trail.
“The downhill rebuild project has been undertaken by a dedicated team of volunteers.
“With the right training and paperwork in place, heavy machinery has been used to construct some exciting new features on the downhill trail.
“The trail has been designed for advanced downhill bikers, for which there is a growing market across the country.
“With the interest and feedback already received on the trail it looks like this will be one of the most popular downhill trails in the south of England.”
The trail will be officially opened at 10am on Sunday.
It costs £6-a-day to ride at Aston Hill, if riders buy a pass online in advance. Alternatively riders can pay £7 if they simply turn up and buy a pass from the ranger on the day.
The money covers personal insurance and the upkeep of the site. For more details visit www.rideastonhill.co.uk
